Zero Waste Brooklyn Groceries
Precycle – Zero waste, locally sourced grocery delivery
Maison Jar – A full service grocery store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. From their website: Making low-waste and responsible choices should be easy. At our neighborhood corner store, we offer just that. Bring in your own containers or purchase reusable ones in store. . . By offering a different way to shop, we seek to help our customers produce less waste, promote a mindful diet, and support our local farmers and producers in the process.
Oriental Pastry and Grocery – A favorite local spot! They sell bulk grains, nuts, olives, spices and middle eastern pastries such as Baklava.
GrowNYC Farmer’s Market, Farm stands, and Produce Boxes – GrowNYC is the non-profit operation behind NYC’s extensive network of farmer’s markets and stands, textile recycling sites, and compost drop-offs. This link will take you to their interactive map where you can find the sites most easily accessible to you. This incredible organization is full of dedicated people working tirelessly to support equitable access to healthy food throughout the city.
Zero Waste Brooklyn Restaurants and Cafes
IVX Coffee – Low waste coffee shop offering a CSA pickup, sustainably made clothes, and other products.
Rhodora Wine Bar – They offer zero waste, carbon neutral and natural wines. From their website: “Sustainability and respect for humans and the environment are the core tenants of the program and guide both the food and beverage choices, as well as the operations of the restaurant as a whole.“
Planted Community Cafe – “Planted is a cafe and low-waste plant market in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn that puts vegan, whole foods, health and the environment above all else. We have formed relationships with local Makers and Growers in order to offer you a quality plant-based menu that rotates with the seasons.“
Zero Waste Brooklyn Clothing
Zero Waste Daniel – From their website: “Zero Waste Daniel is a New York based clothing designer and zero-waste lifestyle pioneer who uses pre-consumer waste sourced from New York City’s garment industry, as well as other hard-to-recycle materials, to create his line of genderless clothing and accessories that send nothing to landfills.”
Zero Waste Brooklyn Home Goods and Toiletries
Big Reuse – Amazing! Affordable! And an incredible resources for used books! Big Reuse is a secondhand shop with a massive selection of home furnishings, construction materials, clothes and books.
Green in Brooklyn – From their website: . .offers a one-stop shop where people who’d like to live an eco-friendly lifestyle – and those who already do – can find information and the products they need to easily and innovatively green their home and lives.. . .
Common Good and Co – They make nontoxic, sustainable, refillable cleaning products for your home, laundry, and body. Offering refill stations across the city and across the country, where you can bring reusable containers to fill up.
Brooklyn Made Natural – These sisters started in Brooklyn and have since relocated to California. While I discourage shipping cross country, these are still great products and would make lovely gifts to any California based friends or family.
Earth and Me Co. – Technically they’re in Astoria, Queens and not Brooklyn. They use an electric vehicle, offer circular delivery, and provide free delivery on orders over $40.
LaNature Store – Zero waste, refillable toiletries and home products based in Brooklyn. Delivery available!
Community Resources
Zero Waste Workshops – Their goal is to “bring together the zero waste community in New York City and beyond, and provide as many tools as possible to make zero/low waste an approachable way of life.” Workshops are held throughout the city and can be a valuable resource for meeting like-minded individuals.
Manhattan, Queens, and Beyond
Package Free Shop – “At Package Free, we provide the most sustainable versions of products that you use daily. Our products use zero or minimal packaging and eliminate single-use plastic from your everyday routines. We also ship 100% plastic free.“
A Sustainable Village – “Our mission at A Sustainable Village is to support our community in making small, sustainable changes that are good for both you and the environment. We specialize in curated sustainable goods and a refillery complete with the best home and body care products available.“
